Rain water slid down the windows of Zetx’s apartment. The weekly shower was pouring out water, a sign that it was a special storm. Each week, the city was scheduled to have some rain fall to create a more realistic enviornment for its residence, but there was only a ten or twenty percent chance that it would be as heavy as it was now.

Zetx looked at his distorted view of the city’s downtown area. The street lights blurred with the water and even thirty-one floors above the ground, he could hear the sounds of traffic collide into the rain through the controlled area.

8pm. The streets were programmeed for “slow rush,” according the city officials, whatever a slow rush meant. Looking back at one of his vidscreens, he watched as a progress bar slowly made its way to 98 percent. He was late, he was supposed to have been out now and the file should’ve been encoded and sent five minutes ago. Even five minutes might screw up their plans, bots patrolled the area incessantly, scanning for any net traffic that may contain anything questionable. The closer a group was to where they thought the originating source was, the faster they would be able to respond, and five minutes was enough for them to have gone around his sector twice more than planned; where they were now, at 8:04, he didn’t know.

100%. He stared at the screen, trying to imagine where the bots may have been at that precise moment. Slouching his shoulders, he sighed, and clicked a button.
